In this section we provide an overview of Afghanistan's economy and issues affecting the Afghan economy with a special interest and outlook to a future reconstruction phase of the nation and her economic infrastructures.

We would like to identify the relevant factors and policies that will assist, both in the short term as well as in a long term, in the rebuilding effort of what truly is a daunting task.

Members of President Hamid Karzai's Cabinet

The current cabinet was approved by the Wolesi Jirga in April 2006 (after nomination by the President in March 2006).
Each was sworn in by President Karzai on May 2, 2006. Karzai's cabinet consists of 25 ministers and one senior minister. The previous cabinet members were appointed by President Karzai upon formation of the transitional government in 2002, however, it was dissolved after the parliamentary elections.

اقتصاد افغانستان در حال رشد است اما فقر همچنان نافذ و فراگیر است.

خان محمد، کارگر سنگ کار افغانستان می‌گوید،3 ماه گذشته شغل مناسبی نداشته است.محمد و 12 نفردیگر به امید گرفتن یک کار روزانه در سرما و در کنار خیابانی در کابل ایستاه‌اند .او می‌گوید:” من در عرض سه ماه تنها دوروز به عنوان کارگرروزمزد کارکرده ام و 180 افغانی (3.60دلار) در یک روز و 200افغانی (4دلار) روز دیگر ،دست مزد گرفته ام.او ادامه می‌دهد،تمام روز به امید اینکه کاری بگیرم اینجا می‌ایستم و در انتهای شب به خانه اجاره ائی خود که با پنج فرزند و همسرم درآن زندگی می‌کنم، بر میگردم.در تاریکی و دزدکی به خانه بر می‌گردم تابا مغازه دارانی که به آنها بدهکارم روبه رو نشوم.اقتصاد افغانستان با وجود شورشیانی که همچنان در غرب و درشرق وجود دارند،
